Advantages of the microphone:
Detachable microphone so you can use the headphones without the "headset" appearance.
Disadvantages of the microphone:
Bass is louder than normal. There is often echoing in chat (unsure of problem's source).

I got these at a reasonable price years ago and they haven't failed yet. I did have to purchase a separate cable for PC use.
