Review #22752 about “AKG D5”
Author: 3am fajitas
Microphone: AKG D5
Rating: Excellent (5 out of 5)
Date:
Advantages of the microphone:
Base-y and warm, noise suppression (dynamic mic), good for vocals, produces the kind of mainstream sound that would appeal to the average listener. The kind of quality of sound that makes folks suddenly go "wow! you have nice mic" lol
Disadvantages of the microphone:
Super finnicky and VERY sensitive, you're going to have to play with levels and positioning for days to get that ideal, clean, buttery smooth sound. The setup to make the mic sound at its best is more expensive than the mic itself (preamp, audio interface, accessories, etc.) Also just suffers from typical dynamic mic issues
Author’s comment:
The perfect mic for those on a budget, if you're willing to work hard and put in the hours to make it sound its best. I spent around $250 total on the entire mic setup (including shipping, but your experience may vary depending on your location), around $100 on the mic itself, $100 on the Scarlett Solo and $50 on various accessories, such as the boom arm and XLR cable. I've had the gear and setup for around a year now, and it's given me minimal trouble. You can make this mic sound fantastic and far surpass its worth in sound quality. You won't find a $250 mic, with no setup included, that sounds this good.
