Review #26725 about “Samson Meteor Mic”
Author: Rowan
Microphone: Samson Meteor Mic
Rating: Excellent (5 out of 5)
Date:
Advantages of the microphone:
At anywhere from $30-50 brand-new, this microphone is quite a good deal. It sports a flashy design resembling the microphones of old and is well-built, being made of die-cast zinc. It is also designed to be portable, with the legs folding up and allowing it to be stored in an included cloth carry bag. The sound quality is very good for a microphone of this price. There is also a standard microphone thread on the bottom for attaching to a stand.
Disadvantages of the microphone:
The model shows its age in its mini-USB interface, which is annoying considering the connector's poor durability. Considering this is also an issue with industry leaders like Blue's Yeti and Snowball, it gets a pass. It also lacks much in the way of physical controls, with only a single knob and button which I believe controls the volume of the headphone jack on the back, but again, that puts it on par with the less-portable Blue Snowball.
Author’s comment:
You may be able to get a microphone with a USB-C interface and a full desktop stand for around the same price, but Samson's offering is worth considering for its portability alone. It makes for a great travel option that can be brought around on a person, to whip out on a moment's notice and capture the sounds of the world.
