Advantages of the microphone:
My laptop sits off to the side of my desk so having the mic in the camera mounted at the top of the monitor makes it easier for it to hear my voice.
Disadvantages of the microphone:
it sometimes becomes unrecognized by the laptop, which reverts to the integrated mic so I have to unplug and replug it to get it to work.
