Mic Test

Review #29671 about “Shure MV7”

Microphone: Shure MV7
Rating: Excellent (5 out of 5)
Date:

Advantages of the microphone:
-Great for a budget mic. -Has a USB connection that gives you access to a program that allows you to adjust the EQ, compression, and limiter switch. -Great for podcast. -Sounds great after EQ.

Disadvantages of the microphone:
-XLR cable is not included. -Picks up low-end frequencies aggressively. -Needs to be EQ'd. (Recommend using an interface with input mixers or EQ presets) -The ShurePlus MOTIV app does not affect the XLR modes sound quality, mic gain, or EQ. (To my testing, the settings for the app will not translate to XLR mode. Which is why you need an interface.) -USB mode gain control is to low.

Author’s comment:
My rating is with XLR mode enabled, USB disconnected. I have a behringer[XENYX 320 USB] mic preamp/audio interface. The mic may need a clean gain lifter, like a cloudlifter. I did not use this and it still sounds great! I'm also using a studio boom arm that reaches over my display monitors, while staying out of the way and the mic is pointing downwards at maybe a 70 degree angle since it is a directional mic. Lastly, I did not use the USB mode because the gain control is far to low.
