Review #36539 about “Microphone (USB PnP Audio Device)”
Author: ilyass
Microphone: Microphone (USB PnP Audio Device)
Rating: Excellent (5 out of 5)
Date:
Advantages of the microphone:
1. Plug-and-Play Simplicity No drivers, no setup headaches — just plug it in and go. Chrome, Discord, OBS, everything recognizes it instantly. 2. Noise Suppression It actively reduces background hum, fan noise, and room buzz. Great for open rooms or noisy environments. 3. Echo Cancellation Prevents that awful feedback loop when you’re on voice calls. Makes communication smoother and cleaner. 4. Low Latency (0.01s) Near real-time audio. Perfect for live streaming, gaming, and video chats — no annoying voice lag. 5. 48kHz Sample Rate @ 16-bit That’s broadcast quality. Voices sound clear, natural, and crisp. Plenty good for YouTube, Twitch, or Zoom — no need to upgrade unless you’re making music or doing ASMR. 6. Mono Channel (1 channel) Saves CPU power and bandwidth. Ideal for voice — most platforms like Discord or Teams compress to mono anyway. 7. Automatic Gain Control Helps keep your voice at a consistent volume even when you move around or talk softer.
Disadvantages of the microphone:
1. Generic Driver = Limited Controls Because it’s PnP, there’s usually no dedicated software for EQ, filters, or manual gain control. You may need third-party tools like Voicemeeter or OBS filters for fine-tuning. 2. Auto Gain Can Backfire Sometimes boosts background noise when you’re quiet. Can lead to volume fluctuations that feel unnatural in recordings or streams. 3. Basic Build & Sensitivity These mics aren’t super sensitive — may lack the richness or warmth of higher-end condenser mics. Picks up less detail if you’re not close to it. 4. No Stereo Recording For music, binaural, or immersive recording — not ideal. You’re limited to mono (1 channel). 5. May Confuse OS with Duplicate Entries If you plug it into a different USB port, Windows might treat it as a separate device with identical names (as you already noticed).
Author’s comment:
Use OBS filters: Add gain, noise gate, compressor. Try Voicemeeter Banana or NVIDIA Broadcast (if you have RTX): Full control over voice processing. Disable Auto Gain if you want stable volume for streaming/recording.
